Richard J. Schroeck, 79, of Erie, died Wednesday, August 5, 2015, at Elmwood Gardens, following a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born on July 9, 1936, in Erie, son of the late Joseph and Amelia Hoffman Schroeck. A 1960 graduate of Tech Memorial High School, he moved to Chicago and worked in sales for Marshall Field's Department Store. He returned to Erie and worked in sales for Jewel Tea Co. and then for Schillings Carpet for 23 years, retiring in 2000. Mr. Schroeck also acted as Show Director for Presque Isle Artists' Association for several years. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church and was a former member of the Zukor Club. He enjoyed painting with watercolors and acrylics and doing pencil sketchings, especially barn themes. He carried his artistic ability throughout his love of gardening, where he specialized in bearded irises, growing forty different varieties. He was proud to be a homeowner, taking great care of his property, enjoyed traveling with his wife, and had a "big heart"; always being kind and considerate.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Richard Kraus and a sister-in-law, Antoinette "Toni" Schroeck.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Carol E. Meyer Schroeck; sister, Allene Kraus; three brothers, Thomas Schroeck and wife, Audrey, Lawrence Schroeck and wife, Mary Ann, and Robert Schroeck and wife, Carol, all of Erie; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.
