Richard L. “RL” or “Dick” Powell, age 75, of Millcreek and Deerfield Beach, FL, passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014 at St. Vincent Health Center following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Albion, on January 16, 1939, the son of the late Gerald and Thora Strong Powell.
RL graduated from McDowell High School and grew up attending the Federated Church in East Springfield. He was self-employed in the trucking industry. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #66 (past Governor) and was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, skeet shooting and golfing. RL also enjoyed cooking, watching The Food Network and the DIY Channel. He was a very social person who enjoyed having a good time with all.
Richard is survived by his wife, Darcey Sprague Powell; three sons, Richard T. Powell, Robert E. Powell and David G. (Robyn) Powell, all of Erie; a daughter, Patti Anysz of Waterford; a brother, Robert (Donna) Powell of Erie; and a sister, Gerry Blose of Alabama. He is also survived by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 W. 26th St. (at Powell Ave.), on Wednesday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, from 10:00 to until the time of the service there at 11:00 am with Reverend Ed Huntley officiating. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
