Richard F. Moran, age 89, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at UPMC Hamot. He was born in Titusville, PA on September 10, 1925 son of the late Richard J. and Theresa Haaser Moran.
Richard served as a US Navy Aviation Cadet during World War II before attending Edinboro College for two years. He then went on to be employed by Lord Corporation for 42 years until his retirement in 1987 where he was known as “Buggs”.
Richard and his wife were founding members of St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church. He was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying for many years. His favorite saying was, “It’s a good day to fly a stearman”. Richard loved the outdoors particularly fishing and hunting. His greatest passion however, was his family; as a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Joe Moran and his sister Margaret Fritts.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years Elizabeth; three daughters, Jean (Robert) Agnew, Linda (David) Hasbrouck, and Martha (Anthony) Garofalo; two sons, Richard F. Moran Jr. (Deborah) and James J. Moran; grandchildren Richard F. Moran III (Johanna), Robert Agnew III, Beth Schule (Travis), Christine, Timothy (Rachel), Morgan and Sydney Moran; and great grandchildren Emily, Pacey, and Ryan Moran and Nieve and Eamon Schule.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Wednesday from 4-8 pm. and are invited to prayers at 10:15am at the funeral home on Thursday followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 2801 West 6th Street at 11 am with Father John Detisch officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Our Lady’s Christian School 606 Lowell Avenue Erie, PA 16505.
