Richard Macdonald

Richard “Dick” Allen MacDonald, Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep at the home of his son, Allen MacDonald, in Saint Augustine, Florida on November 13, 2018.  He was born July 6, 1930 in Erie, PA, the son of the late Glenn and Susana (nee Williams) MacDonald.

He was married to the love of his life, Sally (nee Young) for 57 years prior to her death in 2010.  Dick grew up in Erie and McKean, attended Strong Vincent High School, and then served in the US Navy on the USS Mattabesset.  He was an avid musician in his youth, playing clarinet and sax for a local swing band.  He loved to dance, spent most of his adult life as an automobile mechanic, and enjoyed traveling to visit his sons and grandchildren during retirement. 

Richard is survived by his four loving sons, Allen (Bobbi) MacDonald, Mark MacDonald, Paul (Diane) MacDonald, and Dean (Carrie) MacDonald, sisters Aleene Masterson and Reva Nelson, 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandson, and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and others.   He was pre-deceased by his two brothers, Francis Glenn and Clifford Irwin MacDonald. 

Friends and family may call at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26^th St. (at Powell) on Monday, November 19th, 6-8 pm and attend a funeral service there at 10 am on Tuesday, November 20.   Burial will follow at Erie County Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
