Richard F. (Dick) Lux, 95, of Kissimmee, FL, and formerly of Erie, died Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at home, with his wife and friends at his side.
Dick was born in Weehawken, N.J., on Feb. 24, 1920, to the late George Henry Lux and Nora Hurley Lux.
Dick was raised in Erie, where he attended Harding Elementary School, Gridley Junior High School and Strong Vincent High School. He graduated from the U.S. Army Transportation Corps Officer Candidate School, in New Orleans, LA., and attended the University of Miami, in Coral Gables, FL., after World War II.
He spent four years in active duty with the U.S. Army during World War II, and he spent several years in the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring as a captain.
Dick spent most of his civilian career in construction, including seven years as field officer for the Dravo Corp. in Pittsburgh, working on various multimillion-dollar projects throughout the United States. He was employed for 17 years with the builder Sessinghaus & Ostergaard Inc. in Erie, handling payroll and working as a safety manager and construction field officer. He was the pay master for the Codan Corp. at the Erie International Marine Terminal.
In early 1982, Dick moved from Erie to Florida, where he worked for the Pavarini Construction Corp. as timekeeper and payroll manager during construction of the 28-story, $85 million Buena Vista Palace Hotel in Disney Village. He retired from the 1,028-room hotel as a senior tradesperson in November 1992.
Dick was a past member of the Erie Maennerchor and the Danish Club, and was a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Kissimmee, FL.
Dick enjoyed playing tennis and golf, following the University of Miami Hurricanes and entertaining relatives and friends in Florida with his wife, Ann Williams Lux.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Florence Brown and her husband, James T. Brown; a brother, George Henry Lux and his wife, Eleanor Lux; a great niece, Norah Crawford; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ann B. Williams and Rogers Williams.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Ann Williams Lux, of Kissimmee, whom he married Feb. 24, 1992, in Erie; three nieces, Mary Carol Brown and her husband, John Dardinski, of Deland, FL., Catherine Crawford and her husband, Robert Crawford, of Erie, and Mary Frances Lux, of Hattiesburg, MS.; two nephews, James Brown and his wife, Mary Claire Dudenhoffer Brown, of Erie, and James Lux and his wife, Martha Lynn Lux, of Clinton, TN.; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends may call at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, 728 W. 9th St., Erie, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, and may attend a Funeral Mass on Monday, June 1st at 10:00 AM in St. Andrew Catholic Church, 1116 W. 7th St., Erie, with the Rev. Walter E. Packard as celebrant. Interment will follow at Erie Cemetery.
