Richard Hillhouse

Richard Hillhouse, age 59, of Erie, passed away peacefully at his son’s house on Friday, February 3, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father Andrew C. Hillhouse and mother Harriet Olson Hillhouse.

Rick was a 1982 graduate of Harborcreek High School and worked as a medical records coder, specializing in cardiology coding. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved camping, hunting and fishing. He and his son Sean spent many years camping at Hemlock Lakes in Corry, PA, where they made a number of close friends. He also was a big NASCAR fan and his all-time favorite driver was Darrell Waltrip. He went to many races over the years with his family and friends, including: Charlotte, Richmond, Bristol, Martinsville, Watkins Glen, Pocono and Michigan. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and was a volunteer fireman at Brookside Fire Department.

Rick was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes in his late teenage years. Throughout the rest of his life, he faced many challenges due to this devastating disease. He continued to remain strong and persevere, each time he was faced with a new consequence as a result of his diabetes. He cared very deeply about the work and research done by JDRF (The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation). He hoped that someday JDRF would find a cure, so that future generations do not have to experience the same life challenges that he and other diabetes sufferers endure throughout their lifetime.

He is survived by his son Sean Hillhouse (Jordan Artise); one brother - Donald (Renee) Hillhouse of Erie, PA; two sisters - Barbara Bish of Tallmadge, OH and Betty (Daniel) Davis of White Haven, PA; one grandson Blake Hillhouse and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road, on Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 11 a.m. until the time of service there at 1 p.m. He will be laid to rest next to his parents in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery immediately following the service.
