Richard Higley

Richard C. Higley, Sr. age 79, of Girard, passed away Monday January 8, 2018 following a brief illness.

He was born in Ashtabula, OH on June 3, 1938, a son of the late Harold E. Higley and Lillian Patton Hunt.

Dick graduated from Conneaut High School (Ohio) in 1956.  He served as an officer in the Ohio National Guard.

He was a Sergeant on the Conneaut  (Ohio) Police Force  where he served for 10 years before going  to work at Bucyrus Erie for approximately 10 years. Dick finished his career as Girard Borough Manager for 17 years, retiring in 2005.

He coached his sons in baseball for many years in Ohio.  Dick enjoyed golfing, fishing and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.  He was a fan of Cleveland sports teams and Ohio State Football.

Dick was a past Exalted Ruler of Conneaut, OH Elks Club, and an active member of Grace Episcopal Church in Lake City. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Hunt.

Dick is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Palmer Higley; a daughter, Mindy Stolson and her husband Scott of Costa Mesa, CA, Rick Higley and his wife, Kathleen of Chagrin Falls, OH and Bill Higley and his wife Christine of Fairview; two sisters, Nancy Justice and Patricia Hoskey and a brother, James Hunt; grandchildren: Allison and Billy Higley, Marion and Robert Blalock and Richard P. Higley. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, Girard on Saturday from 1pm until the time of the service at 4 pm with Rev. Bob Burke officiating.

Burial at Springfield Cemetery at a later date.
