Richard Ellis

November 20, 1955 — June 29, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Richard “Doc” Ellis announces his passing on Friday, June 29, 2018 following a brief illness.  He was 62. 

Doc, also known as “Rick,” was born November 20, 1955 in Wilmington, Delaware.  He graduated from Fairview High School in 1974 and was a member of the 1973 ECL Champion Fairview Tigers Baseball Team.  A 32 year employee of General Electric, Rick played in the Glenwood Baseball League and was a fixture in local softball and bowling leagues having participated for several decades. He also enjoyed golf and flying with his father. 

He was an avid Cleveland Browns and New York Yankees fan, as well as a car enthusiast and especially loved his 1988 Corvette. 

He loved film noir, crossword puzzles and spending time at his family’s camp on Lake St. Catherine in Vermont.  

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Richard M. and Ethel H. Thackeray, paternal grandparents John C. and Luella H. Ellis, and his Uncle and Aunt, William and Connie Parker. 

Rick is survived by his son, Jeff Ellis, of Raleigh-Durham, NC as well as his parents, Ronald and Betty Ann Ellis of Wells, Vermont.  He will be lovingly remembered also by his brother Steve and sister-in-law, Sheila, of Front Royal, VA and by his brother Chris, sister-in-law, Gianetta, and niece, Audrey all of Wells VT, Uncle and Aunt Chris and Kathy Ellis of Granville NY, and several cousins. 

The family will receive friends from 4pm to 7pm Thursday July 5th at Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street, followed by a brief service. 

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Erie City Mission, 1023 French Street, Erie PA  16501.
