Rev. Rosetta Montgomery

November 6, 1946 — December 5, 2017

On December 5, 2017, God reached down and plucked one of His precious flowers. It had endured many windy days, but it had one of the sweetest aromas found in the garden. That flower was in the person of Rev. Rosetta Welch Montgomery. Rev. Montgomery was born on November 6, 1946, in Tuscaloosa, AL to the late J. D. Welch and late Beatrice Archibald Tucker.

Rev. Montgomery attended school in Tuscaloosa and Northport, AL and graduated from Riverside High School, Northport, AL. Rev. Montgomery received a call from God at an early age to teach and preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ at Beulah Baptist Church, Northport, AL, where she was baptized under the pastorship of Rev. Austin Byrd.

Rev. Montgomery graduated in 1998 from Jericho Christian Training College, Washington, D.C. with her Theological Degree. She also earned an Associate of Science degree from Gannon University in 1998. Other areas of studies in church leadership include Nursing Ministry in the local church, Allegheny Union Baptist Assoc., Congress of Christian Education, Associate Minister and Pastoral training classes at the National Convention Congress USA in Nashville, TN. She also served as an Associate Minister, Department Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, President of Senior Missionary Society, Mothers’ Board and a Youth Advisor Committee member.

Rev. Montgomery was ordained under the pastorship of Rev. Amos Goodwine in Erie, PA. Her ministry was a reward to the community. It took her across the city of Erie, into nursing homes and retirement assisted living residences which she provided worship and bible studies. She also spoke at various civic events, conferences, workshops, churches and synagogues. As you can see, she has shown thyself faithful unto God.

In July 1965, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Eddie Montgomery, Jr. in Tuscaloosa, AL. Upon moving to Erie, PA, to this union was born one son and two daughters. Rosetta’s heart and energy was always supported by her husband, Eddie, in the service of the Lord and in her various collegiate accomplishments.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking and studying the Bible. Her devotion to the needy, friends and family was best expressed through her delicious signature cakes and dinners. Many lives have been touched, changed, and saved by her compassion of caring, sharing, and ministering.

Loved ones left to cherish her memories include her loving and devoted husband, Eddie Montgomery, Jr. of Erie, PA; son, Eddie Montgomery, III of Erie, PA; daughter, Francesca Montgomery (known by the family as Mari) of Columbus, OH; sister, Dorothy Wright of Riverdale, GA; brother, Ray Ballard of Tuscaloosa, AL; sister-in-law, Betty Montgomery of Atlanta, GA; aunt, Dorothy Archibald of Erie, PA; grandchildren, Natasha Knight, Tierra Montgomery, Bryan Roberts (Ashley) of Erie, PA; Tamika Montgomery, and Tika Allen (Marvin) of Lumberton, NC; Roland Slade III, Malik Slade, and Cameron Curry of Columbus, OH; 18 great-grandchildren; one nephew and a host of family and friends.
