Renee Boccio

Renee Boccio, age 78, of Erie, passed away peacefully with family surrounding her on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at her residence, where she lived for 65 years. She was born in Erie, May 16, 1944 to the late Michael and Jennie Marabito Boccio.

Renee was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School (class of 62’), she earned a bachelor’s degree from Slippery Rock University, before graduating with a master’s degree from Gannon University. She was a physical education teacher in the Millcreek School District for 33 years, as well as a coach of girls’ cheerleading, gymnastics, track & field, and cross country. She was an advocate for the equality of women’s sports and for underdog students.

Renee loved traveling, she was an avid photographer, taking countless photos on all of her world travels. She enjoyed both bowling and golf leagues, her bible study group, as well as wine and travel clubs. She was a PASR leader and funded a scholarship for female physical education students at Slippery Rock University.

Renee is survived by her sister, Denise Stiffler, her nephew Mark Simons (Chanda), and her niece Kalie Berkey (Adam). She is further survived by her great nephew Michael, her best friends Kate and Jim Fatter, many cousins, and close friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Michele Allen.

Her family would like to thank all of her caregivers, especially the entire “Team Boccio”, UPMC Home Health Care and Hospice.

Friends are invited to call on the family, Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Service Inc. Downtown 602 West 10th Street, Erie. A private entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Renee’s honor to the World Wildlife Fund.
