Reginald L. Vassar, age 96, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Forestview Skilled nursing Center.
He was born in Prince Edward, VA on August 22, 1918, son of the late Oscar L. and Mary Atkinson Vassar.
He attended Worastam, Virginia Polytech, George Washington and Penn State. Reginald entered the US Air Force 9th District just after D-Day during WWII and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He then went on to work as an electrical engineer at GE and International Harvester.
He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church, serving as trustee; the AEEA; he was a member of Amity Masonic Lodge A.F.& AM; Scottish Rite Valley of Erie and the Zem Zem Temple Shriner of Erie, PA, and the Lawrence Park Golf Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Vassar in 2010; a daughter Joan Vassar; a brother Basil Vassar; and three sisters, Elizabeth Picket, Edith Vassar, and Lois Vassar.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Butler and her husband James of Waynesburg, PA; 5 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Monday from 3 to 6 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.. Burial to follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery with full Military Honors.
