Reed Grunden

March 21, 1938 — October 2, 2018

Reed F. Grunden, age 80, of Millcreek Township, died on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.  He was born in Sandusky, Ohio on March 21, 1938, the son of the late Reed M. Grunden and Agnes Freeman Grunden.

He was a 1956 graduate of McDowell High School, the College of Wooster and the American Graduate School of International Management in Phoenix, Arizona.  His business career was centered on industrial sales and marketing with several local manufacturing companies, plus founding his own metalworking firm.

He enjoyed volunteer work, particularly conducting narrated pontoon boat rides at Presque Isle State Park for almost 20 years.  He was a past Vestryman and Secretary of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, and was the founding President of St. Stephen’s Nursery School.

Reed was a past member of the Rotary Club of Erie and was a Paul Harris Fellow.  Other past memberships include the former Aviation Club, Erie Maennerchor, Lake Shore Country Club, Erie Yacht Club, and the Sportsmen’s Athletic Club.  However, his favorite club was the weekly Saturday evening gatherings at his home with close friends which someone dubbed “Reed’s Club”.  He also enjoyed spending time on the water, particularly Lake Erie and the rivers surrounding Pittsburgh, Many fun hours were spent with his family aboard his boat, the “Grundoon”.

Reed was extremely proud of the personal and professional accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his former wife, Jane Imhoff Grunden, and is survived by his daughter Carol Elliott and son-in-law Benton Elliott of Fairview, and his son Christopher Grunden and his wife Katy Goldman of New York City.  He is survived by five grandchildren, Hayden and Dillon Elliott of Fairview and Lucy, Will and June Grunden of New York City.
