Raymond J. Lapenz, age 96, of Erie, passed away on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at Fairview Manor.
He was born in Erie, PA on August 30, 1925 the son of the late Richard and Theresa Skibinski Lapeusz.
He was a graduate of Millcreek High School, Class of 1943. Ray was a WWII veteran of the United States Army having served in the South Pacific; he retired as a Master Sergeant of the Reserves. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where he had served as the first President of the Men’s Council, was a Trustee and member of the Building Committee; and was also a Lifetime member of F.O.P. He retired from the Erie Police Department and also the VA Medical Center. Ray enjoyed yard work, landscaping and golf; he loved to work with youth and especially Little League Baseball.
Ray was preceded in death by his wife Florence Zielinski, in 2019 and they were married 72 years, a sister, Irene Liegl and his stepfather, Joseph Lendzion. He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen A Fasekas, of Erie, two grandchildren, Matthew Fasekas (Valeria) and Amanda Fasekas, two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Julian, two brothers Robert Lapenz and William Lapenz (Roberta) and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 1553 East Grandview Blvd., on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 from 10:30 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
