Raymond Kuneman, age 92, of Millcreek, passed away on Thanksgiving Day Thursday, November 24, 2016 peacefully in his beloved Niagara Village Home, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He passed while his daughters were singing a song to him that he had sung to them as children.
Ray was born in Erie on August 29, 1924, a son of the late Irene DeFoy Williams and Harry Kuneman.
He was a 1942 graduate of Academy High School and went on to serve in the United States Army during WWII as a medic in the Pacific Theater of operations.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was an accomplished poet, leaving many works for his family to cherish. He enjoyed golf, fishing and helping his family with projects around the house. His greatest joy and most important part of his life was spending time with his children and grandchildren of whom he was very proud. One of the highlights of his life was a “Tour of Europe” with his wife Catherine.
Ray retired from Bucyrus Erie Company as a Production Supervisor after 32 years of Service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Catherine A. Kuneman; an infant daughter, Nancy Elizabeth; three brothers, Robert, Donald, and Gerald Kuneman; a sister, Joan Kuneman.
He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Kwitowski and her husband Frank and Susan Williard and her husband Leo both of Erie; five grandchildren, Amanda Williard, Landon Williard, Matthew Kwitowski, Kristen Kwitowski and Allison Williard; a great granddaughter, Aubrey Louise Eaton; and a sister, Mary Williams of GA. He is further survived by dear friends, Louise Kwitowski and Ed Stush.
The family would like to thank his Niagara Village family, especially Coreen, the staff of Metropolitan Hospice and “Sue’s Crew” for their love and care during his illness.
Friends may call at Burton Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 4:00 p.m. Burial will be Monday at 12:00 p.m. in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
