Raymond Kidd

March 21, 1919 — February 8, 2016

Raymond Kidd, 96, of Leland, NC, formerly of Fairview, PA, died Monday, February 8, 2016, at Wilmington Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Ray was born March 21, 1919 in Bridgeport, CT, son of the late Kajetan and Catherine Kida Ignatowicz. His wife, Susanne Sekerak Kidd, who he married in 1946, and his two brothers, Lawrence Kidd and Alvin Kidd, preceded him in death.

He attended East High and was a graduate of Tech High School. Ray served in the U.S. Navy from 1939 - 1945, and was the recipient of eight campaign medals with 2 silver stars, and 4 bronze stars. He campaigned in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theatres during WWII, serving on the battleship, USS New York and heavy cruiser, USS Wichita.

Ray was a construction electrician and managed Church & Murdock Electric Company’s Erie operation for 38 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Fairview and served on the Building Committee at the church. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Naval Enlisted Reserve Association, Holy Cross and Holy Name Association, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the American Legion.

He is survived by a daughter, Sandra Gemach (Richard) of Leland, NC; son, Raymond Kidd (Kolleen) of Leesburg, VA; four grandchildren, Laura Donohue (Thomas), Andrew Kidd, Anna Kinlaw (Dwight) and Kathleen Howard (Kelly); five great-grandchildren, Madison Howard, Katherine Donohue, Ryan and Kyle Howard, and Olivia Kinlaw.

Friends may call on Thursday from 11:00 am till noon at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street (at Powell Avenue) Erie, PA 16506. Interment will be in St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Corry, PA.

Memorials may be made to the Gertrude A. Barber Center, 2084 W. 16th Street, Erie, Pa. 16505.

The Gemach and Kidd families would like to thank his caregiver, Gail Bryant, for 11 years of endless and loving service. We also thank the Wilmington Health & Rehabilitation Center for their loving care given to our Dad with every visit to the home, especially during his final days on Earth.
