Ray Zimmerman

January 1, 1951 — March 27, 2021

Ray A. “Mr. Z.” Zimmerman, age 70, of Edinboro, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Ashtabula County Medical Center, Ashtabula, OH.
He was born in Erie, PA on January 1, 1951, a son of the late Edgar Q. and Catherine L. Pifer Zimmerman.


Ray graduated from Fort LeBoeuf High School in 1969. He went on to earn his teaching Degree from Clarion University and Penn State University.


Ray was a dedicated school teacher for General McLane, retiring in 2018 after 41 years of service. During his time at General McLane, he was especially active in the sports program and extracurricular activities. Ray worked part-time at the Scott Funeral Home for several years. He also loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter.


In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Cheryl Zimmerman.


Ray is survived by his lifelong companion, Robin Vascovich of Edinboro, Robin’s son and grandson, who Ray loved as his own, Eric Herrmann (Melissa) of Erie and Logan Herrmann, Robin’s sisters who were special to Ray, Karen Johannes and Lynn Kacprowicz, a daughter, Kathleen C. Zimmerman of Erie, a son, Daniel Zimmerman (Susanna) of Brooklyn, NY and a sister, Susan Young (Thomas) of Punxsutawney, PA. Several nieces, nephews, great-nephews, a great-great-nephew, cousins and special friends, Josh, Nicholas, Shannon and Michelle also survive.


Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Inc., Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road, on Tuesday, March 30, 2021, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at 10 a.m. Rev. Kristen Papson of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. The service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/BurtonQuinnScott/. All CDC guidelines will be followed including wearing masks, social distancing and capacity limits.


Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
