Rachele Presogna

Rachele A. Presogna, of Erie, age 95, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, November 23, 2016.

She was born in Montenero, Italy, to the late Giovanni and Clementina Bonaminio DiFilippo, and later immigrated to the United States after her marriage to Rinaldo N. Presogna

Rachele’s primary purpose in life was to care for her family, and to be of service to others. In this she was guided by her Catholic faith and her church. Her early life revolved around church activities, farming and preparing delicious food for others. Shortly after her arrival in America, she began cooking for the Sisters of St. Joseph at their convent in Erie. Her cooking skills brought her to Lord Corporation cafeteria where she was the cook for many years. Brightening someone’s day with words of encouragement, a good joke, or small gifts and a tasty meal brought many friends and visitors to her home. And, her stories of hiding from and outwitting Nazi invaders in Italy kept everyone entertained.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rinaldo N. Presogna, and a sister, Candida Zuchegna (Italy).

She is survived by a son, Joseph Valerio Presogna of New York; a daughter, Carmela R. M. Presogna of Fairview; a brother, Emilio DiFilippo of Millcreek and many nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Church, 5145 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16509. Burial will be private at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Arrangements and service are entrusted to the Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506.
