Phillip Mccray

Phillip (Sam) C. McCray Jr., age 66, of Erie, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2014 at his residence after a lifetime of illness.

He was born in Corry, PA on January 26, 1948 and raised by his grandparents Clyde and Fanny McCray.

He graduated from Sparta High School.

Phillip was a self-employed contractor and window installer. He was a member of the Community United Church.

Phillip enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, bowling, motorcycling, and racing especially watching his son in law Doug Eck (03) race and Jeff Gordon in NASCAR. He was also an avid Cleveland Browns fan. He was a handy man of all trades, master of none. Phillip was proud to have had been the first recipient at 16 years old of an aorta valve replacement by Dr. George D’Angelo.

In addition to his grandparents, he was preceded in death by a nephew, Billy McCray; cousin, Mark McCray; Mother in law, Sallie Fenchel and a brother in law, Kevin Brown.

He is survived by his wife Leslie Fenchel McCray of Erie; son Bradley McCray and his wife Kelly of Corry and their kids, Brent, Kaitlyn, Samantha and Jessica; a daughter, Stacy Eck and her husband Doug of Corry, and their kids, Jordan, Brandan, Douglas and Nicholas; son Kevin McCray of Erie and his kids, Trevor, Ashley, Reagan and Jacob; son David (Trish) McCray of Corry and their kids, Kaylee and Kaydan; daughter, Amanda (Bobby) Delong of Erie and their kids, Isabella and Mason; daughter, Briana Delong; daughter Cassandra McCray both of Erie; a brother Bill McCray of Spartansburg, PA; two half-brothers, Rich McCray and his wife Becky and Ronnie McCray and his wife Tammy; a half-sister, Cindy McCray; and aunts and uncles Charles and Helen McCray and Ray and Kathy McCray. He is further survived by several other aunts and uncles, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street (at Powell Ave) on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
