Peyton Elizabeth Madura Babcock, age 24, of Erie passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. Her courageous 5 ½ year battle with cancer was an inspiration to everyone who knew and loved her. She was born April 27, 1993 to Sean and Maggie Madura. Peyton was a lifelong Erie resident, a 2011 graduate of McDowell high School and had worked for several years at the West 26th Street McDonalds.
Peyton attacked her illness with a ferocity that belied her youth and stature. Following her diagnosis, she participated in numerous clinical trials at UPMC Pittsburgh and Sloan Kettering Medical Center. Through all the tests, all the miles, all the hopes and false hopes she remained a persistent warrior. Her bravery galvanized an army of family and friends who were equally as steadfast in their support. Her beautiful smile and her positive attitude were an inspiration to all.
Peyton drew special strength from her husband, Jeff. He shared her burdens, gave her love and a marriage that gave her much deserved happiness. She said the love she got from her baby sister, best friend and precious “munchkin”, Morgan, was the source of strength that “pushed her to be strong and fight every day”. Peyton was an indelible example of her favorite quote, “Life isn’t waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning to dance in the rain”.
In addition to her parents, Peyton is survived by her husband Jeff Babcock, a stepson, Brayden Banko, a sister Morgan Madura, and her grandparents; Marilyn “Ema” Richardson (Charlie), Russ “Papa” Richardson (Wanda), Dennis and Nancy Madura, and Jim and Jeanne Gemler. She is also survived by many aunts and uncles including her favorite aunt Madonna Edwards (Kyle) and four cousins; Madison, Sydney, Casey and Skyler.
Peyton’s family would like to thank Regional Hospice, especially Laura, Kelly, and Rich along with the staff at CRI for the wonderful care they provided.
