On September 3, 2023, at 12:30 a.m., Peter A. Pizzi, Jr., passed away with his wife, soulmate and best friend, Antoinette Pizzi by his side.
Peter A. Pizzi, Jr. was born in Erie, PA on July 20, 1941, to Jennie (Viggiano) Pizzi and Peter A. Pizzi, Sr.
He was a 1959 graduate of Strong Vincent High School.
In 1960, Pete enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. St. Paul. The movie “In Harm’s Way” starring John Wayne was filmed aboard the ship. Many of the men were extras in the movie. Peter can be seen in the movie taking his hat off while running in response to general quarters announcement.
Peter’s rank was E-3, he received the good conduct medal and was honorably discharged in 1964.
Peter and Antoinette were married on a beautiful October day in 1967. He worked in sales and later was supervisor at the North East, PA Welcome Center, retiring at the age of 62.
Pete enjoyed golfing, pool, basketball, running until he was older and then walking 5 miles each day.
He was a New York Yankee and Cleveland Brown’s fan. He and Antoinette enjoyed going to Seawolves games, long rides in his car and listening to Elvis music was their favorite pastime.
Peter was a private, caring and gentle man. Antoinette and Peter enjoyed 56 wonderful years of marriage. During his illness he persevered and never lost his sense of humor. He enjoyed the cards and letters he received from friends and family.
Peter will be remembered for his character, sense of loyalty, generous heart and the wonderful way he treated people. It is more than what he did, it is who he was. It is all of those traits combined that made him a truly remarkable man.
Pete is survived by his wife, Antoinette (Toni) Chludzinski Pizzi, his sister, Grace Seggi, two nephews, Gary Seggi (Brenda) and John Bellucci (Mary), three nieces, Ann Marie Knebel (Rick), Patricia Wagner (Matt) and Kathy Bellucci-Pandl (Joe), sister-in-law, Rose Chludzinski who was like a little sister to him, four brothers-in-law, Joseph Chludzinski (Sue), Daniel Chludzinski, John Chludzinski (Linda), and Adam Chludzinski (Cathy), many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Anthony, sister, Phyllis and her husband Ed Bellucci, his brother-in-law, Guy Seggi, and niece Julie Seggi, and Peter’s in-law’s, Joseph and Jean Chludzinski. Many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, Wintergreen, 2532 Norcross Road, Erie, on Saturday, September 9, 2023 from 9 a.m. until the time of service there at 11 a.m.
Burial will be in the Whispering Pines Cremation Garden.
