Peter “Pete “ A. Kemling III, age 66, of Springfield, died Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at St. Vincent Health Center. Born in Erie on March 14, 1947, he was a son of the late Peter A. and Bessie Case Kemling II.
Pete was a 1965 Fairview High School graduate. He drove truck for 14 years, 10 of those with Apgar Bros. Trucking during which time he drove a 1969 U Model Mack truck for over one million miles. He then owned several businesses including Kemling Enterprises Trucking, Presque Isle Roll-R-Cade Roller Rink, Fox’s Pizza, First Choice Catering and Lunch Trucks and he also owned a concession trailer used at local fairs. Pete was a member of Lake Erie Lodge No. 347 F. & A. M., Scottish Rite Bodies Valley of Erie, Zem Zem Temple Shrine and was treasurer of West County Paramedics Auxiliary for many years. His grandchildren were his greatest joy and he never missed attending their sporting events, practices, and even purchased a 1968 Cadillac convertible to enter in local parades with them. He attended the Federated Church of East Springfield.
In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his sister: Luella Papson and her husband Cyril, his brother Bill Miller and his sister-in-law Marge Kemling.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Janet Burger Kemling, a daughter, Amy Mitchell and her husband Mike of Albion, a son, Matthew Kemling and wife Peggy of West Springfield; three grandchildren: Megan and Jacob Mitchell and Karlie Kemling; two sisters: Delores Grega and her husband Dan and Sandy Saliga and her husband Rich, all of Girard; a brother Frank Kemling of Fairview, brother-in-law, Doug Myers and his wife Joan of McKean; as well as many nieces and nephews and a “brother”, Tommy Condon.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main Street East in Girard on Friday for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Burton’s All Faiths Chapel with Rev. Ed Huntley officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to West County Paramedic Association, P.O. Box 5, Girard, PA 16417, or to Springfield Fire Department, P.O.
