Pearl (Fomich) Sabetti, 92, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at home in the loving care of her children. She was born October 21, 1929 in Irwin, PA, the daughter of Joseph and Frances Fomich. Pearl was the seventh of 10 siblings and attended the former East High School in Erie. Pearl was a master at the loom. For many years she created the most beautiful rag rugs, many of which are still being used to this day. She was an avid walker and a devotee of Tai-Chi, which she practiced well into her 80’s. After becoming a widow at a young age, she pulled herself up and went to work to support herself. She lost her only beloved son when he was just 45 years old. Although she led a hard life, Pearl was a very strong woman – especially in her faith. She was a devoted member of the (Old Rite) Orthodox Church of the Nativity of Christ for most of her life. She also attended St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Edinboro. Nothing was more important to her in life as her faith, which she worked very hard to instill into her children and grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (Benny) Sabetti and her son, Anthony (Tony) Sabetti. Also, her nine brothers and sisters, Raymond, Charles, Jack, Peter and Fred Fomich, Mary Yokoff, Violet Smith, Kaya Lupo and Martha Petroff.
She is survived by her three daughters, Marlene Meister and her husband William, Trina Sabetti and Sonia Esfahbodi-Rad and her husband Saeid. She leaves behind grandchildren Stacy Wing (husband Fr. Seraphim), Hilary Reil (husband Geoff), Christopher, Mary and Gregory Watson, Leah Kosin, Kevin Burfield (wife Kristina), Jeffrey Barnette (fiancé Holly), Tony, Joseph and Stefanie Sabetti and 10 great- grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm in the Parlor at the Russian Orthodox Church of the Nativity of Christ, 251 E. Front St. The funeral will be held there at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 29th.
Burial will be in St. John the Divine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of the Nativity Foundation, 109 German St., Erie, PA 16505 or St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 8442 Pageville Rd., Edinboro, PA 16412.
