Paul Ostergaard

Paul B. Ostergaard, age 99 of Erie, passed away on December 27, 2023 at Sarah Reed Senior Living. 

He was born in Erie on November 11, 1924 son of the late Christian and Elizabeth (Li) Blume Kundsen Ostergaard.

He served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1946.

He was a 1942 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, attended Amherst College and State University of Iowa in the military, and was a graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in 1949 and a Master’s in 1950.

He was a registered professional engineer and worked at Carrier Corporation, Lewis S. Goodfriend and Associates, Goodfriend–Ostergaard Associates where he was vice president, Ostergaard Associates where he was owner, chair and president, and Ostergaard Acoustical Associates where he was the senior consultant.

He was a member of Fairview Presbyterian Church and was a Clerk of Session for many years.   Other memberships include Fellow of Acoustical Society of America; Founding Chair of Acoustical Society Foundation; Fellow of American Council of Engineering Consultants; Boner Medal Recipient and Honorary Member of National Council of Acoustical Consultants.   He was also a member of the Audio Engineering Society; American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air conditioning Engineers; American Society of Mechanical Engineers serving on a standards committee on noise measurement; American Industrial Hygiene Association; Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation, serving as chair for two years; Catgut Acoustical Society; Sigma Xi Honorary Research Society; Consulting Engineers Council of New Jersey; Theta Xi Fraternity; and the American Arbitration Association.  He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, Northern New Jersey Council and French Creek Council; a member of the Fayetteville Central City Masonic Lodge No. 305 F. & A.M., and served on a National Machine Tool Builders Association Noise Committee.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Chris Ostergaard and Eric Ostergaard, his sister Ann Ostergaard, and by his wife, Jacqueline McKnight Ostergaard whom he married November 24, 1951.  He is survived by two daughters, Trisha Ann Ostergaard of New York, NY, and Lisa Ostergaard Allendorph and her husband James of Delmar, NY; two sons, Hans Paul Ostergaard and his wife Terry of Ellsworth, WI, and Niels Christian Ostergaard and his wife Kathy of Columbus, IN.  He is further survived by six grandchildren, their five spouses, and seven great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at Fairview Presbyterian Church, at a later date.   His body will be donated to science according to his wishes.  Arrangements entrusted to Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc., Downtown, 602 W. 10th St., Erie.
