Paul Winsor Jewell age 76, of Millcreek joined his “bride” Joy, the love of his life, in eternal rest on Monday, April 11, 2022. Paul, who was known to his grandchildren as Papa, was devoted to his family and was an avid sports fan. He lived his life in service to his community and his country.
He was born in Flushing Long Island, NY on April 19, 1945, a son of the late Mervyn Winsor and Mary Patricia McNaught Jewell. He lived most of his adult life in Chippewa, PA raising & loving his family before retiring and spending his last 12 years with his children and grandchildren in Erie, PA.
Paul was a graduate of Bethel Park High School and went on to receive his BA in Communications from Geneva College where he met Joy, his late wife of 52 years.
He served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1974.
Paul began his career with General Mills Company, worked for the Alumni office of Geneva College and retired from People’s Home Savings Bank.
He was a former member of the Freedom Presbyterian Church in Freedom, PA where he served as an Elder and Trustee and was currently a member of Wayside Presbyterian Church in Erie.
Paul was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Beaver Falls where he served as Past President. He was a member of the United Way of Beaver County, served as a Board Member of Beaver County Chamber of Commerce where he served as treasurer and past president. He served on the Board of the Beaver County March of Dimes, past president of the Children Aid and Family Service of Beaver County and was Supervisor of Chippewa Township. He also served as President of the Hamot Aid Society.
His most passionate service was to CORE, the Center for Organ Recovery and Education, as he was a 28-year recipient of a heart transplant. He was so grateful that this allowed him to see the college graduations and marriages of his children and enjoy close relationships with his grandchildren.
In May of 2022, Paul and his wife Joy will be awarded the Life “G” Award, Geneva College’s highest Alumni honor, for their dedication and service to the college. Paul also received the Paul Harris Award from the Beaver Falls Rotary Club and Beaver County Man of the year award in 1997 from the Beaver Valley JC’s.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Morgan Jewell; a son, Todd Lytle Jewell; a brother, John Stuart Jewell and a sister-in-law, Donna Morgan Alleman and her husband Major Donald Alleman.
He is survived by his two children, Christy DeLullo and her husband Dr. James DeLullo and Jonathan Winsor Jewell and his wife Dr. Erica Jewell; 7 grandchildren, Julianna Elizabeth DeLullo, Braden James DeLullo, Ava Rose DeLullo, Christian James DeLullo, MacKenzee Rose Jewell, Austin Winsor Jewell and Grayson Winsor Jewell; a twin brother, Richard Gordon Jewell and his wife Dayl; nieces, Lisa Alleman Wargo (Steven), Lori Alleman Kreamer (Toni), Jessica Jewell Lalley (Paul) and a nephew, Ryan Alleman (Lori). He is further survived by many great nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at 2:30 p.m. at Wayside Presbyterian Church 1208 Asbury Road, Erie, PA 16505. Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the service.
