Paul J. Guerrein
Passed away at home in Fairport, NY as he wished on May 20, 2015 at the age of 85.
Paul was born in Erie, PA on April 18, 1930 the son of the late Joseph H. and Laura M. (Whalen) Guerrein. He was a proud 1947 Cathedral Preparatory graduate. He attended St. Bonaventure University and then entered the Air Force, serving in Guam during the Korean War. After his return, he worked at his father’s market before beginning his career at the A.B. Dick Company in Erie and Rochester, NY.
After a short retirement in Stuart, FL, Paul returned to Fairport, NY where he resided with his daughter Anne and her family. Paul loved living in Fairport, but his heart belonged to Erie. He enjoyed the beaches, perch, the Ravine Flyer, and Urbaniak’s. Paul loved all sports, especially the Chicago Bears, St. Bonaventure Bonnies, Notre Dame, and the Cathedral Prep Ramblers.
Paul had a nickname or a greeting for everyone whether it was Spider, Margo, or Pakazenia and he shared essential advice including, “The harder you work, the luckier you get” and “Always be nice.”
Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Lillis Guerrein; and three siblings: Donald, Robert, and Bette Lou.
He is survived by his children, Betsy Christiansen of Penfield, NY; Michael (Kimberley) Guerrein of Fairport, NY; Ellen (Saverio) Colao of Erie, PA; Anne (Larry) Wahl of Fairport, NY; Paul (Kathleen) Guerrein of St. Louis, MO and Jane (Thomas) Zucco of Scituate, MA; grandchildren, Bryan, Kevin, Jordan, Andrew, Nicholas, Julia, Benjamin, Timothy, Brigid, Quinn, and Camden; and two sisters, Rita Boetger and Mary Walker.
The family will receive friends at the John J. Quinn Funeral Home, 728 W. 9th St. Erie, PA on Tuesday May 26th from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM and are invited to attend Prayer Services there Wednesday at 9:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Peter Cathedral. Burial will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
