Paul Barone

Paul F. Barone, 89, of Erie, died on Wednesday September 2, 2015. He was born in Wesleyville on February 9, 1926 a son of the late Michael and Sophia Sequenzia Barone.

Paul graduated from Wesleyville High School and then entered the Navy, serving during World War II. He was stationed in Bainbridge, MD, Shawnee, OK, Pensacola, FL and Lido Beach, NY. He was Honorably Discharged in March, 1946, receiving The American Theatre Medal and The Victory Medal. Paul began his bricklaying career with several companies including GE, and eventually retired from National Forge.

Paul (affectionately known as “Tall Paul”) was an avid Hunter and Fisherman. He was a life member of the American Legion and the Wesleyville Athletic Clubs. He was a natural carpenter and handy-man and was always working on projects for the family. He was responsible for establishing the family tradition of Pasta on Sundays, precisely at 3:00 PM.

In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife Lorna earlier this year, and three brothers, Vito, Frank and Sylvester Barone.

He is survived by three daughters Sharon (Stephen) Barrett, Bonnie (Jeff) Carlo, and Natalie Barone, all of Erie; four grandchildren Stephanie (Eric) Sontag, Erin Grady, Emily (Eric) Hubler, all of Erie, and Kara Barrett of Rocky River, OH; two great-grandchildren Hannah Sontag and Lily Grady, both of Erie; and his sister Jenny Caruso of Lynbrook, NY.

Friends may call at the Burton West Lake Funeral Home, 3801 W 26th Street (at Powell Ave.) on Saturday, September 5 from 1-4 p.m., and are invited to attend a funeral service there on Sunday, September 6 at 10:30 a.m. Burial immediately following at Laurel Hill cemetery.
