Patricia Ellen (Rodgers) Healey

Patricia Ellen (Rodgers) Healey passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, on January 27, 2024.  She was born April 29, 1941 to Josephine (Graham) and Ralph Rodgers in Olean, NY.  Patty was the youngest of ten children in what she said was a large, busy family that always made her feel loved and special.  She earned a degree in Education and taught for more than forty years at Our Lady’s Christian School in Erie and for the Millcreek School System.

She delighted in teaching children to read, partly because she liked reading, but mostly because she loved children.  She eventually came to see herself as an environmental educator, helping little ones dive deep into the mysteries of the world’s oceans and rainforests.  She insisted, formidably, on kindness among her kids.  She is survived by her sister Shirley (John) Dicello, as well as by many nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her son Patrick (Strongsville, OH) and his wife Jennifer (Katona) Healey, as well as their sons Shane and Owen.  She is further survived by her other son Sean (Eden, UT), Sean’s wife Kirsten (Cooke), and their daughters Corinna and Brigid.  She was recently preceded in death by her husband Terry Healey, whom she married in 1964. They lovingly supported one another through 60 years, her faith and resolve complementing his idealism and energy.  Patty’s generous heart will be missed by all.

A funeral mass will take place at St. Jude the Apostle Church in Erie on Saturday, February 3^rd at 10:00, with burial to follow at St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery in Smethport, PA.  Those wishing to honor Patty are encouraged to read to a child sometime soon, or to be kind to someone who doesn’t expect it.
