Patricia Norland

April 23, 1938 — May 20, 2022

Patricia “Patty” Ann Travers Norland, 84, of Erie PA, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2022.

Patty was born on April 23, 1938 and was the beloved daughter of the late Elizabeth “Betty” and Fred Travers, both of Erie, PA. She was raised in Erie and graduated from Villa Maria Academy in 1957.

Patty met her husband-to-be, Henry W Norland, her freshman year of high school and bet her best friend, Judy Hart, $1 she was going to marry him. They tore the $1 bill in half and Patty won the bet when she married Hank in December 1957, while Hank was on leave from the US Army, and stationed in Texas. She still has the taped $1 bill.

Patty and Hank moved to the Boston area and raised 4 children in Newton, MA until 1980 when they moved their family back to Erie. They lived in Patty’s favorite neighborhood where she loved to ride her bicycle along South Shore Drive. The family’s favorite vacation spot was on Martha’s Vineyard where they went every year. Patty loved to walk the beach and take in the sunset. Unbeknownst to many, her motto in life was: Listen, smile, agree, and then do whatever you were going to do anyway.

Patty was predeceased by her husband Hank; her brothers Frederick and Philip Travers, and her sister Nancy Travers Jillard.

She is survived by her brother David Travers and his spouse Donna, of Swarthmore, PA, and her four children: Kathleen Galarza, and her husband, Angel Galarza of Franklin, MA, Amy Fenton, and her husband Gregory Fenton of Cape Cod, MA, her son James Norland or Erie, PA, and Peggy McNeeley, and her husband Timothy McNeeley, of Erie, PA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Christian and Julia Galarza, Coleman and Ryan Fenton, and Emma, Tomas and Molly McNeeley. Patty is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
