Patricia “Patty” Jo Smith Ballman, age 64, of Erie, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2023, at Saint Vincent Hospital surrounded by family. She was born in Erie, PA on May 7th, 1959, a daughter of the late Carl and Josephine Pakela Smith.
Patty was a 1977 graduate of Tech Memorial High School and went on to earn her RN from Saint Vincent School of Nursing in 1979. She earned a Certificate of Health Care Administration from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA in Healthcare Management from Graceland University. Patty’s lifelong career in health care began as a registered nurse at Saint Vincent Hospital, where she would later work in various administrative roles. After nearly 40 years with Saint Vincent/AHN, Patty’s career led her to Caravan/Signify Health, where she most recently served as Vice President Value Based Care Solutions.
Patty was a lifelong caregiver and this attribute translated to all aspects of her life. Patty created a warm and loving household, where family and friends were always welcomed with a hug and kind words. Patty was devoted to her family, friends, and fur babies (Winston and Murphy), whom she loved dearly and cherished spending time with. Patty had a love for gardening and enjoying pool time in the summer. Patty also had a great passion for traveling, especially cruises, and loved planning family vacations. Over the years, her favorite hobbies have included skiing, baking, scrapbooking, crafts, and involvement in her children’s school activities including serving as cheerleading coach and Girl Scout troop leader for many years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her half-sister Diane; father-in-law Eugene Ballman; sister-in-law Karen Ballman and brothers-in-law Ricky and Arthur Ballman.
Patty is survived by her husband of 42 years Michael Ballman; a daughter Jennifer E. Ballman, PharmD and her fiancé Michael Dean, of Cleveland, OH; a son Patrick M. Ballman, D.O., of Pittsburgh, PA; her mother-in-law Harriet R. Ballman; five sisters-in-law Deborah Ballman, Sally Cunningham, Corinne Peters (Larry), Mary Raupers (Paul), and Phyllis Fedorchak (Mark); two brothers-in-law Douglas Ballman (Elaine) and Gary Ballman (Jenny); an uncle Robert Pakela (Cammy) and dear friends Judy Malcolm, Mary Yakish and Maria Ehrman. Further surviving are many nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as a sister Carol Pianta (Jay).
The family would like to thank the many wonderful physicians and nurses at AHN Cancer Institute and Saint Vincent Hospital that provided excellent care to Patty, including Drs. Tayshetye, Marcus, and Salvador.
Friends may call at Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th St., on Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM and are invited to a funeral mass on Friday, July 21st at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church at 1:30 PM, with Rev. Daniel Hoffman presiding.
