Owen Murphy, age 81, of Erie passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at UPMC Hamot. He was born November 9, 1936 in Birkenhead, England, the son of the late Owen and Jessie Cohen Murphy.
Owen had served in the military in the United Kingdom and had travelled the world for various jobs including being the ship’s plumber on the Queen Mary and the Queen Elizabeth. He loved the adventure of visiting various countries and experiencing others cultures around the world.
After coming to America he was a plumber and ironworker for Local 333.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jeanette Marie Metzler who died this past July.
Owen is survived by his wife, Jeanette Price Murphy and a son Damian Murphy of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by his loving granddaughter, Megan Claire Metzler of Erie; and a sister-in-law, Joan Rippon and her husband Brian of the UK and their children, Andrew, Phillip, and Luke.
Owen’s family would like to thank their dear friend Joan, and the staff at UPMC Hamot for the attentive and compassionate care that was provided to him during his illness.
Friends are invited to call at the Quinn Funeral Home, West 9th & Liberty St. on Saturday from 11:00 AM until 12 noon at which time Funeral Services will be held. Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
