Owen C. Higgins, age 94, of Lake City, passed away, Thursday March 3, 2016 at Erie VA
Hospital following an extended illness.
He was born in Elyria, Ohio on August 5, 1921, a son of the late Harley and Mary Ann Bors
Higgins.
Owen was called to serve in the U.S. Army in World War II in January of 1944. He was in the
2nd Infantry, Indian Head Division and served in France, Belgium and Germany.
He retired in 1985 after 40 years as an electrician with Lake Erie Electric Company. Owen was
a member of the Girard Alliance Church and the Disabled American Veterans in Erie. He also
enjoyed woodworking and hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Mildred Fischer Higgins.
He is survived by his son, Donald O. Higgins and his wife Linda L. of Girard; three grandsons:
Brian (Stephanie), Benjamin (Kathleen) and Bradley, and eight great grandchildren: Noah,
Emma, Aidan, Owen, Ava, Henry, Eli and Olivia. He is further survived by several nieces and
nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home, 525 Main St. East, in Girard on Sunday from
1-5 p.m and are invited to attend a funeral service there on Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Clyde Davis and Rev.David Fugate officiating, with full military honors. Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
