Orsanne "Sannie" Potter

Orsanne Rice (Sannie) Potter passed away peacefully on June 23, 2023, at the age of 89 in Amelia Island, FL. The daughter of the late Reverend Orson Rice and Myrtle File Rice, she was born on November 5, 1933 in Kingston, NY and grew up in Catskill, NY. 

Sannie received her BA degree from Dickinson College in 1955 and taught English in Newville, PA and Duke Center, PA. After moving to Erie, she worked as a Real Estate Agent for approximately 24 years with Jane Theurkauf Realty, Spiegel Realty, and Howard Hannah Realty, ultimately retiring in 1999. She was an active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Fairview, PA serving on the Vestry Altar Guild and was also active in the Erie Garden Club. She was a volunteer for many organizations over the years, including The Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center, the Tom Ridge Environmental Center, the Presque Isle Stull Center and Meals on Wheels.

Sannie enjoyed gardening, traveling, knitting, baking and leading family courthouse tours. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her loving family and many friends. She will always be remembered for her strong faith, kindness, generosity, and loving nature.

Sannie lived in Erie for almost 60 years before relocating to Amelia Island, FL to be closer to family. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter Leslie Ann Potter. She is survived by her sons Stephen John Potter of Pompano Beach, FL, James William Potter and his wife Mary Jo Potter of Amelia Island, FL, Mark Rice Potter and his wife Alicia Potter of Cranberry, PA, her grandsons Zachary James Potter and his wife Marie Sanna Kihle of Oslo, Norway, Brett William Potter and his wife Danielle Martin Potter of Methuen, MA, Joseph Rice Potter, her granddaughter Laney Leslie Potter, and her great-grandchildren Harlow Rose Potter, Haven Grace Potter and Isak Kihle-Potter. 

Visitation will be held in her honor at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th Street, Erie, PA 16506, from 10 am to 12 pm on July 11, 2023, followed by a private ceremony at the Laurel Hill Cemetery.
