Norman S. Kraus, 92, of Erie, died Sun, Nov. 17, 2013 at St. Vincent Health Center following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 24, 1921 in Erie son of the late Stefan and Martha Maeder Kraus. He graduated from Erie Tech High School and was a tool and die maker at Nosco Plastics and Triangle Tool. He was a U.S. Army combat veteran of WW II participating in the D-Day invasion of Europe. A lifelong resident of Erie, Norm was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and was one of Jackson Magenau's "boys" in the Usher's Society. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club, the Glenwood YMCA, Scottish Rite Valley of Erie, Tyrian-Commonwealth Lodge No. 362 F.& A.M., and Erepa Grotto. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant son, Keith, and brothers, Richard, Herbert, and Melvin Kraus.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Little Kraus; sons Kenneth and James of Erie; grandson Jason, wife Chelsea, of State College; granddaughters Kelly and Erin, great-grandson Antonio, and great-granddaughter Gemma, all of Erie. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Harriette and Charlotte Kraus, and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St. A funeral service officiated by the Rev. Roy P. Washill of St. John's Lutheran Church will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 11 a.m. immediately followed by military honors conducted by Erie-Crawford County Burial Detail. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, 1645 W. 8th St., Erie, PA 16505; or to St. John's Lutheran Church, 2216 Peach St., Erie, PA 16502.
