Norma Lowstuter Yaple, 87 of Erie, PA and Houston, TX passed away Monday, November 11, 2013 at Manchester Presbyterian Lodge at Woodside surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Erie, Pennsylvania on November 24, 1925, she was a daughter of the late Cora Peters Lowstuter and George Washington Lowstuter.
Norma was baptized in the Methodist Episcopal Church on April 16, 1936.
She was a graduate of Academy High School class of 1944.
Her employment began in her parents business working in the food distribution industry located at the Central Market. She then began a longtime career employee for 35 years at the J.C. Penney Company as a supervisor. She had a strong work ethic and established good friends in the company.
Norma lived her life being kind, thoughtful and generous. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother to her five children. Nothing gave her more pleasure than spending time with her family especially on birthdays and holiday time.
Her hobbies included playing cards, being an avid reader, gardening, interior design, fashion and traveling to Florida and Texas. She especially enjoyed many annual trips with her twin sisters’ family in Florida. She had been a member of the Erie Maennerchor Club and Siebenbuerger Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Charles J. Yaple on February 10, 2006. He was the love of her life.
Norma is survived by three daughters, Patricia A. Shaver and her husband Hank of Houston, TX, Deborah A. Wells and her husband Thomas of Erie and Nancy L. Kelly and her husband Daniel of Austin TX; two sons, David R. Yaple and his wife Lynne of Erie and Charles J. Yaple and his wife Susan of Washington D.C.; six grandchildren, Gregory Yaple and his wife Barbara, Matthew Kelly and Lauren Kelly, Alison Bernhardt and her husband Michael, Ellen Smith and her husband Adam and Peter Yaple and seven great grandchildren. Norma is further survived by her beloved and devoted twin sister Nona Taylor and her husband George of Atlanta, GA; three sisters in law and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 W. 26th Street on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are invited to attend a service there on Friday at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Dan Owen officiating. Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
