Norma Williams

Norma Jean (“Bonnie”) Williams, nee Martin, age 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Sara Reed Senior Living. She was born in Boissevain, VA on July 1, 1942, a daughter of John W. Martin and Elizabeth Brooks Martin.

Bonnie was a loving mother and excellent homemaker. She loved to cook for her family and was renowned for her dinners. At holidays, everyone wanted her dressing (“stuffing”) and during barbecues, her potato salad. She exhibited her love through her cooking, and often provided the sick and shut-ins dinner plates. She had a love of sports, mostly basketball and boxing, and knew more about it then the men in the family. Bonnie was also well versed in politics and current events, and loved to debate. She was in touch with the Holy Spirit and loved the Lord. She read the Bible religiously. She is now reunited with her eldest son Michael (“Shane”) Williams.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Michael, her brother Larry Martin, her sisters Barbara Ann Martin and Deborah Selby, and a nephew Damiekio Martin.

Bonnie is survived by her daughters: Alice Grandberry, Nona Barnes, Charlene Williams, Lisa Williams-Carrington, Khadija Horton, and Nadirah Williams; her siblings; Julia (Ron) McGruder, Roger (Deloris) Martin, and Clara Whitaker. She is further survived by 18 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Family will receive loved ones at Greater Calvary Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2624 German St., on Saturday, July 7^th at 11 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:30 p.m., with Elder Braxton Vaughn officiating and Bishop Jesse Gavin as eulogist.
