Norma Jean Squire

November 24, 1924 — January 12, 2024

Norma Jean (Emling) Squire, age 99, passed away peacefully in her sleep at LECOM Senior Living Center on January 12, 2024. She was born in Erie on November 24, 1924, the daughter of the late John (Jaz) Emling and Anna (Strong) Emling. In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Frank Squire, Sr.; her son Frank Squire, Jr. (Jeanne) and eight siblings; Betty Weber, Charlotte Hofstettler, Margaret Smith, John Emling, Mary Ann Haley, Sylvia Johnson, Richard Emling, and Warren Emling.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Diana (Dick) Stoker of Erie; two sons; Gregory (Anne) Squire of Valencia, PA and Gary (Gene) Squire of Erie. along with a sister-in-law, Rose Emling. She is the proud grandmother of eight; Frank Squire III (Robin), Brenda Dimatteo (Edward), Jeff Squire (Tamara), Craig Stoker (Christine), Kris Stoker (Emily), Deana Kimes (Dave), Megan Tristani, and Adam Squire (Dawn) and 13 great-grandchildren; Michael, Kimber, Taylor (John), Tucker, Emma (Travis), Edward, Catherine, Kayla, Jack, Alex, Ethan, Isabelle and Connor and 7 great-great-grandchildren; Hannah, Michaela, Cameron, Ella, Rylee, Olivia, and Nolan.

Norma enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, and would never miss attending her children’s functions. Her favorite passion was attending church where she contributed her beautiful voice to all her beloved hymns, and she would not start her day before she had read her daily devotional. Norma’s favorite past-time was playing card games, she knew almost every game you could mention, and she made sure all played according to Hoyle. Norma especially enjoyed playing with her children, her sisters, and all her friends at Parkside Westminster where she resided for 12 years prior to her LECOM residency.

The family would like to thank her family doctor, Dr. John Ferretti, the staff of 3 East and 4 West at LECOOM Senior Living and the Hospice nurses of VNA for such wonderful care of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She will forever be missed by all of us.
