Norma Mallin

Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Best Friend

     Norma J. Durst Mallin, 68, of Erie, died Wed., Sept. 19, 2012 at UPMC Hamot following a brief battle with lung cancer.  She was born Jan. 20, 1944 in Erie, daughter of the late William Frederick Durst and Leanora Fetzner Durst Svendson.  A graduate of Strong Vincent High School, she worked for Value City Department Store for many years.  She was a member of Polish Falcons Club and enjoyed golf and bowling and participated in various Erie leagues throughout her lifetime.  Norma was a very kind and generous person and was loved by all. 
     She was preceded in death by her twin brother, William Durst, another brother, Dennis Durst and a sister, Marsha Rougeux. 
     Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Schuster and husband Eric of Waterford and Deborah Mallin and companion Russ Cattell of Erie; a son, Jon D. Mallin II of Las Vegas, NV;  a brother, Dale Durst and wife Linda of Erie; three grandchildren, Alisha Mallin and Jessica and Jennifer Edmunds, all of Erie; six great-grandchildren, Malaijah, Joshua, Janayia, Nysire, Jamariana and Tyree; several nieces and nephews; many friends; and her beloved dog Opal.
     The family wishes to offer a special thank you to the  doctors, nurses and staff of the Regional Cancer Center, Healthy Families Primary Care and UPMC Hamot for all their kindness and support.
     In keeping with Norma's wishes, there will be no visitation.  Burial of cremains will be private at the convenience of the family.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St.  In honor of Norma's love of animals, memorials may be made to Because You Care Inc., P.O. Box 54, McKean, PA 16426.
