Norma Jean Kalie age 78, of Millcreek, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at UPMC Hamot.
She was born on May 28, 1942 a daughter of the late Andy and Agnes Benedict Mikula.
Norma graduated from St. Benedicts High School and Villa Maria College and did graduate work at Edinboro University. She enjoyed teaching elementary school for many years in New Jersey, Erie and Iroquois school districts.
In 1971 on a cold March day, she married her husband Jim Kalie who had recently returned from Vietnam. Together they raised three wonderful sons and are grandparents to seven amazing grandchildren.
Norma volunteered for many organizations throughout her life. She enjoyed baking, reading, and working on jigsaw puzzles. Norma had a great devotion to St. Jude and would always light a candle for those who needed prayer. She was a “people” person and was always willing to care for and help people in need.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Dan and Pat Mikula.
Norma is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jim Kalie; three sons, Jim Kalie and his wife Marissa, David Kalie and his wife Amy and Dan Kalie; seven grandchildren, Emily, Matthew, Landon, Bryce, Bryant, Charissa and Karita; two brothers, Jim Mikula and his wife Jennifer and Ray Mikula and his wife Patricia; and a sister, Mary Lou Mikula. She was “Aunt Norma” to many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation and Funeral Services, West Ridge, 3801 W. 26th Street (At Powell Ave) on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church 130 E. 4th Street, Erie, PA 16507 at 1:30 p.m. The service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page at https://facebook.com/BurtonQuinnScott. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a Later date.
Memorial can be made to the Sister Mary Pascal Food Pantry at St. Patrick’s Church.
