Noreen Swift

May 18, 1933 — March 3, 2013

Noreen A. Coleman Swift, age 79, of Summit, and formerly of Millcreek, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday March 13, 2013.

She was born May 18, 1933, in Kane, Pa. daughter of the late Martin and Pauline Coleman. She graduated from Kane High School and the St. Vincent School of Nursing.

Noreen was a devoted wife and mother of seven children, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She loved family gatherings, dancing, bowling, sports and the Silver Sneakers program at the Y. She sang for many years in the St. Julia RC Church choir and was always present at her children and grandchildren's activities.

Noreen worked for many years as an RN in the Labor and Delivery Units at both St. Vincent Health Center and Spencer Hospital in Meadville. Her enthusiasm for life and never bending spirit were a beacon of light that all were drawn to.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph A Swift; a sister Ruth Bonacci; a brother James "Butch" Coleman; a sister-in-law Mary Jane Gruver; a brother-in-law Edward Swift and a nephew James Langiewicz.

Survivors include her children Ashley Swift (Roberta) of Cleveland; Scott Swift (Sarah); Greg Swift; Stacy Mattson (John); Lisa Swift; all of Erie, John Swift of California and Michael Swift of Tennessee. Also surviving are her grandchildren Adam and Ryan Swift; Jamie, Jenna and Miranda Mattson; Abigail, Megan and Alexa Swift and a great-grandchild Audie Swift. A brother Dick Coleman (Libby) of Kane, her loving companion James Horne; Jim and Judy Galvin and family, Linda Thames, many nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends including Theresa Heller and Mary Lee Smrekar also survive.

Friends may call at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West 26 Street (at Powell Ave.) on Friday March 22 from 2-5 and 7-9 pm and are invited to a prayer service there at 10:15 on Saturday morning. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Julia RC Church at 11am with Monsignor Bruce Allison officiating. Burial will follow in Erie Cemetery.
