Natalya Hahn

Natalya “Nat” Evelyn Holland Hahn, 99, of Lakewood CA passed away on Tuesday March 15, 2016.

She was born in Fairview, PA, on November 24, 1916, daughter to the late Velma and Harold Holland. Nat graduated from Fairview High School and received a bachelor’s degree in education from Grove City College. She later went on to get her master’s degree from Edinboro University.

Natalya started her 30 year teaching career in Northeast, PA later moving to Millcreek, PA and McDowell High School. She worked as a guidance counselor and taught English, Social Studies and Psychology. She sponsored the Drama Club and the Debate Team. During her early years of teaching, she took a summer job at the Port Erie Flying School where she met her future husband Wilbur “Bill” Hahn. Bill got her involved in flying and boating adventures of all sorts. Nat took flying lessons and even worked her way up to solo. Nat and Bill worked together to build their very unique dream home and their dreams from the ground up.

After retiring from teaching, she started her own business under the name “Hahncrafts”. Nat decorated wedding invitations and announcements with finely crafted 3 dimensional quilling. To usher in the computer age, Nat went into the card making business, producing customized greeting cards for her prayer group, as well as family and many extended friends. At the age of 90, she moved closer to her son in California where she obtained her new California driver’s license and took on Los Angeles traffic. While there, she joined a writing club and made new friends while aided in the development of a book called Pieces of Peace and then followed that up with a book of her own called Nikita.

She enjoyed nature, wildlife, crafts, camping and caring for her little dogs, Nikita and Riley. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Life Stories Writing Group.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur “Bill” Hahn; brother Jack Holland and wife Cody; sister Jean Smith and husband Richard; sister Shirley and husband Bob Kunzig; brothers Jerry, and Tom Holland.

She is survived by her son Mitch Hahn and his wife Sharon of San Marcos, CA; grandson Brandon Bolsar and wife Nicole of Waco, TX; brother Allen Holland and wife Sue of Elyira, OH; sister Cathy Risley and husband John of Lookout Mountain, TN; sister-in-laws Av Holland of Wooster, OH and Marj Holland of Falling Watters, WV; along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, students, co-workers, customers and acquaintances.

Friends may visit Monday, March 21st from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Burton Westlake Funeral Home 3801 West Ridge Road Erie PA 16506 (at Powell Ave). A service will be held Tuesday, March 22nd at 10:00 a.m. at the same location to celebrate her life.

Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Fairview, PA immediately following services. Donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
