Nancy Ann (Garvey) Zimmerman age 88, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at her home, surrounded by her children, after suffering a stroke over seven weeks ago.

She was a 1953 Oil City High School graduate and went on to graduate from the St. Vincent School of Nursing in 1956 as a Registered Nurse. She remained close friends with many of her fellow high school and nursing school classmates and treasured their friendship. Other strong friendships included her neighbors at home, her Shorehaven neighbors, and friends from St. Peter’s Cathedral.
She was a Nursing Supervisor at Millcreek Community Hospital for over 15 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon T. Zimmerman; granddaughter-in-law, Holly Canales and brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Callista Zimmerman.

Our Mom’s greatest accomplishment was raising her eight children (with only nine years between the oldest and youngest, including a set of twins), watching her fifteen grandchildren grow up, being an immeasurable part of their lives, and living to see seven great-grandchildren, with another great-grandson expected around Thanksgiving.
Along with our dad, they instilled the importance of family values, respect, traditions, and family taking care of family. Mom created a happy home filled with home-cooked meals and a warm, loving atmosphere, which usually included music. Our fondest memories growing up were eating dinner together, talking, laughing, telling stories, and reminiscing. This tradition carries on to this day through the younger generations.
Mom’s favorite place was at her cottage in Westfield, NY, “Heaven on Earth,” as she would refer to it. Our parents bought it back in 1984 after discovering it on another trip to Canada. “Nancy’s Vineyard,” as it is called, has remained a very special place in Mom’s heart, and the memories of her there will remain in all of our hearts.
Mom loved to travel and had journeyed to Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Aruba, Bahamas, Puerto Rico, and many other destinations. One of her last road trips was a fun-filled adventure, in an RV with some of her children, for a reunion with her brother Tim and all his family in Alabama.
Mom was an amazing lady who was strong, loving, patient, caring, protective, and had a great sense of humor, which could often be seen in her many facial expressions. Mom taught us so many things in life right up until her final passing. She will be greatly missed.
