Nancy Elizabeth van der Kloet Klahr, 88, of Erie, passed away on January 27, 2019, at Forestview Health Care Center. She was born February 13, 1930 in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Mark and Helen Fields van der Kloet II.
Nancy graduated in 1948 from Strong Vincent High School, after which she attended Mercyhurst College. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, PEO Sisterhood Chapter Q, the Junior League of Erie, and a volunteer for many years at the Children’s Museum of Erie.
Nancy enjoyed reading, needlepoint, assembling puzzles, feeding the backyard birds, and her cats throughout the years. Family was very special to Nancy and she loved hearing stories about her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Never one to boast, she was kind, cheerful, loving, and adored by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Helen McMahon and her brother Mark van der Kloet III.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years Lewis S. Klahr, her son Jeffrey of Erie, her daughter Elizabeth Eldakar (Adel) of Oxnard, CA, and her daughter Beverly Wells (Mark) of Fairview, PA; grandchildren Kent Furst (Paula) of Cleveland, OH, Casey Klahr of Erie, Eleanor Wells of New York, NY, Geoffrey Wells of Erie, Bassam Eldakar of Binghamton, NY, Omar Eldakar of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Shaden Hein (Nick) of Niskayuna, NY. She also leaves behind brother-in-laws C. Dean Klahr Jr. and Paul Klahr; and sister-in-laws Kittie Sisson, Carroll Bacon Klahr, and Carley van der Kloet. Nancy is also survived by many nieces and nephews and two great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Forestview and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
Friends may call at Burton Westlake Funeral Home, 3801 West 26th Street, (at Powell Avenue) on Saturday February 2, 2019 from 10:00am until the time of service at 12:00pm. Interment will be private.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 250 W. 7th St, Erie, PA 16501 or the charity of one’s choice.
