Nancy C. Steiner Mando, 75, of Erie, died Thurs., July 12, 2012 at her residence following an extended illness. She was born July 13, 1936 in Erie, daughter of the late Carl and Dorothy Christensen Steiner. A 1954 graduate of Strong Vincent High School, she was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and its Faith Circle. Nancy enjoyed making quilts and was involved in the Linus Organization making quilts for children in need. She was an active volunteer working for the Second Harvest Food Bank for over 23 years, for AseraCare Hospice and formerly for Cascade Methodist Church Food Pantry. Following graduation, for over 55 years, she met monthly with high school classmates until the time of her illness.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Richard E. Mando, Sr.; two daughters, Deborah Rausch and husband Kenneth and Carla Mando; two sons, Richard E. Mando, Jr. and wife Stef and Greg A. Mando and wife Hope; and a sister, Kathleen Nichilo and husband Louis, all of Erie. She is further survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and her cat Susie.
A sister, Patricia Sontheimer, preceded her in death.
Friends may call Sunday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Monday at 10:15 a.m. followed at 11 a.m. by a funeral service at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 1603 W. 32nd St., with the Rev. Brian D. Moran officiating. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 1603 W. 32nd St., Erie, PA 16508; or to Second Harvest Food Bank, 1507 Grimm Dr., Erie, PA 16501.
