Nancy L. Curran, 81, of Lake City, passed away Thursday May 13th, 2021 surrounded by her family at UPMC Hamot.
She was born August 21, 1939, in Lake City, PA, the daughter of the late Jack and Inez Brownlee Curran of Girard.
She was a 1957 graduate of Rice Ave. Union High School. She was a published poet in California, won many awards for her poems and was also a published song writer in Nashville, Tennessee. She was an avid Cleveland Indians fan.
She enjoyed knitting, having made and sold over 600 Christmas stockings for people, regularly receiving phone calls requesting stockings for a new baby or anyone else. She always had about 50 made ahead of time to fill her orders, with the remaining stockings to be donated to Shriners Hospital for Children.
Nancy loved to bake for anyone and at Christmas she really went wild, making cookies, candy, nut rolls, and breads for everyone, who looked forward to them every year. She will also be missed for her pies and sugar cookies.
She was a cook in the Girard area, at the Girard Diner for 13 years; at American Legion on Saturday night steak dinners, and at Barrack’s Restaurant. She also bartended in Girard and Lake City at various bars like “Ralphies”, High Oak, and at American Legion. She had also worked at Marx Toys, Pleasant Ridge, Jackburn Manufacturing, Penn Tech Rubber, also St. Francis Hospital in Olean N.Y.
In addition to her parent’s, Nancy was preceded in death by a beloved sister, Pat Olinger; her beloved granddaughter, Nikki Curran; her maternal grandparents, Hugh and Claribel Brownlee; her paternal grandparents, Arthur and Louise Fraser; her favorite uncle, George Brownlee; and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Holli Nass and grandson Ryan Pierce, of Utah, and Jani Curran of Erie; a son Jeremy Curran of Utah; beloved grandchildren, Lauren Curran and Colton Lee of Girard, a brother Michael Curran (Sissy) of Girard and son John Michael Curran of Erie; one sister, Judy Behringer (Butch) of Albion. Many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Burton Funeral Home 525 Main Street East in Girard. No calling hours will be observed and a private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Platea Cemetery.
