Nancy E. Avery, age 77, of Erie, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Nightingale Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born in Erie, March 1, 1945, a daughter of the late Donald Lewis and Madeline Applebee Avery.
Nancy attended Lawrence Park schools, Penn State and Edinboro Universities, and received a Master of Education Degree in 1971.
Nancy taught kindergarten for 28 years in the Erie School District at Jo Anna Connell, Jones, Harding, McKinley and Emerson. She retired in 2002.
She loved to “play in the dirt”, caring for her garden. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, loved traveling with her sister, and took many Road Scholar programs by herself.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved pets, Magee and Meyer.
Survivors include her sisters, Susan Royer, of Sewickley, PA and Christine Avery, of Erie; nieces and nephews, Colleen Gomolekoff (Pete), Austin Gomolekoff, Lucy Schaly (Joe), Charles Royer (Suzan), of Pittsburgh, Joseph Royer (Grace), of Chicago, Alex Royer, of Pittsburgh, Molly Rubenstein (Paul), of Pittsburgh, Jake Royer (DeAnne), of Palantine, IL, Daniel Royer (Lacey), of Fairfax, VA, Luke Royer (Jessica), of Pittsburgh, Kimberly Kalista, of Pottsville and Camille Svilar (Jason), of Pittsburgh. She is also survived by many great nieces and nephews.
At Nancy’s request, no visitation hours will be observed. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to the Burton Quinn Scott Cremation & Funeral Services Inc. Downtown, 602 W. 10th St., Erie 16502.
