Myron Mcgarry

October 9, 1942 — January 27, 2017

Myron Lawrence “Myrt” McGarry, age 74, of Erie, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2017 from one more illness than he had the strength for. He was surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Aspinwall, PA on October 9, 1942, a son of the late Myron and Mary Schwan McGarry.

Myrt graduated from North Catholic in Pittsburgh in 1960 and Gannon University in 1969, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon.

He retired from City Hall in Erie where he was involved in many departments and was a member of AFSME. He volunteered for many organizations and was involved in many activities.

Myrt was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and a long-time member of the Siebenbuerger Club. He was a life-long Pittsburgh sports fan.

He loved to be around as many people as he could and was always there to listen to anyone who needed someone to talk to. He had a wanderlust for new experiences. He would walk into a room of strangers and leave a friend to all. Myrt loved laughter and was always the life of the party. No one that ever met him, forgot him. He truly was loved by many.

Myrt felt that his biggest accomplishment is his family and he was a very proud father and grandfather. He was his son’s biggest supporter and worked hard to provide anything that his family needed,

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick McGarry.

Myrt is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rose Hildum McGarry, whom he married October 11, 1969; sons, Todd and his wife Janella, Brad and his wife Aimee, and Ryan and his wife Heather; eleven grandchildren; his siblings: Mary Catherine “Kay”, Margaret “Peggy” and Michael, all of Pittsburgh area. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Wintergreen Funeral Home, 2532 Norcross Rd on Monday from 3:00 pm until the time of the service there at 6:30 pmwith Rev. John Malthaner presiding.

Interment will be private at Whispering Pines Memorial Garden.
