Miyoko Chmielewski

Miyoko Nagai Chmielewski, age 84, formerly of West 52nd Street, Erie, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, November 5, 2012, at Pleasant Ridge Manor West.

She was born in Victoria British Columbia, Canada on August 3, 1928 daughter of the late Jirosaku and Uki Tomisaka Nagai and preceded in death by sisters Chiyoko Fukuoka of Japan and Toshiko Hatashita of Toronto, Canada.

She was a graduate of Cordova Bay, Saanich, B.C.

Mickie became a naturalized citizen of the United States November 21, 1955.

She was employed by Erie Osteopathic Hospital as a cook for many years until her retirement. She was an example of kindness, nonjudgmental, caring, loving human being God ever created.

She is survived by two sisters, Shizuko Nagai and Natsui Nagai of Japan, a nephew, Eric Hatashita of Toronto, Canada, nieces Lia Hatashita of New York, New York and Patricia Whetung of Toronto, Canada and many other niece and nephews.

Very special thanks to her many friends for caring for Mickie during the last few years of her life: MaryAnne Grumblatt, Cheryl Tufts, Dianne Reyes, Jennifer Pluta, Arlene Brink, Debbie Kightlinger, Leslie Jennings, Holly Arrison, Natalie Szymanowski and Joyce and Pete Dion. Also thanks to all the Pleasant Ridge Manor West staff for their loving and compassionate care during her residence there.

A memorial service will be held at Pleasant Ridge Manor West Chapel on Saturday Nov. 10th at 1 pm, Pastor John Coleman officiating.
