Millicent M. "Millie" French King, 89, formerly of State Street, died on Sunday, August 7, 2016, at Golden Living Center - Walnut Creek. She was born on September 29, 1926, in Scranton, PA, daughter of the late Joseph P. and Edith R. Sayre French. She attended West Scranton High School and was an investigator for General Telephone for 23 years retiring in 1989. Mrs. King was a longtime member of Simpson Cascade United Methodist Church and belonged to their Epworth Guild.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. King in 1978; two sons, Ronald L. King and Danny B. King; a sister, Eleanor Spano; and two brothers, Joseph and George French.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen E. Young of Tonawanda, NY; a son, Henry B. King of Erie; a stepdaughter, Shirley Kaufman of Erie; a sister, Janet Penkalski and husband Ray of Erie; seven grandchildren, Mary Jo Titus and Jennifer, Jessica, Carrie Ann, Amanda, Joseph and Jeremy King, all of Erie; five step-grandchildren, Robert Pietsch III and Christopher Pietsch, both of Erie, and Summer, Thomas and Brett Young, all of Tonawanda, NY; three great-grandchildren, Alessandra Sank and Ayden and Spencer King, all of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle Street. A service will be held there Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald R. Hullenbaugh of Simpson Cascade United Methodist Church and the Rev. Nick Titus, grandson-in-law of Mrs. King, co-officiating. Private burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Simpson Cascade United Methodist Church, 2113 Sassafras Street, Erie, PA 16502.
