Millard Wyatt, age 96, died peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2014 at Presque Isle Nursing Home and Rehab Center.
He was born December 5, 1917 in Dalton, Arkansas, the son of the late Sam and Avie Wyatt.
Millard moved to Erie in 1929 where he assisted in the building of the Church of the Covenant, in addition to meeting his beloved wife, Esther Ghee Wyatt. They were together for 68 years before her passing in September, 2010.
He served his country in the U.S. Army, was honorably discharged, and was employed by Weil Mclain, retiring in 1980.
Millard had many interests, but non more important than bowling. He won many team and individual honors. He was also instrumental in organizing the High Rollers League.
He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed watching his Cleveland Indians.
In addition to his parents and his wife Esther, he was preceded in death by his sisters Willard McNeil, Christine Crockett, Charlene Wyatt, Della Anderson, and Delvic Coles.
Survivors include his children, Roger M. Wyatt, Russell E. Wyatt and wife Aleatha, all of Erie, Sybil Waters and husband David of Baltimore, MD. Six Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorials may be made to the organization of one’s choice.
Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and are invited to services there on Thursday at 11 a.m.
