Mildred Weems

Mildred Weems, age 84 of Erie, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, February 27th, 2025.

She was born in Laurel, MS on April 16th, 1941, a daughter of the late Elmer Weems and Mary Alice Weems.

Mildred attended school in Erie. She worked for Haynes and was a homemaker who could make a mean lemon pie.

Mildred was an avid music lover and boy how she loved to dance or as she would call it jammin and she was a really great dancer who also loved to travel. Before her illness she was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she sang in the choir which she loved especially when she got to sing lead.

Mildred was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her grandkids and had them spoiled rotten, Nana didn’t play about her grandbabies. She was loved by everyone who knew her, she loved to laugh and loved a good joke.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Albert Sloan, and daughter Rhonda Renee Weems.

Survivors include her loving son Kenneth P. Weems (Ann) of Erie, her sisters Elizabeth Lavalais of Los Angeles, CA; Rosetta Pulliam of Erie, her beloved grandchildren Sherice Brown (Jamie) of Philadelphia, PA, Djuan Weems (Clara), Latajsha Weems and Shayne Weems all of Erie. And her great nieces Tara Carson (Jerome) and Ashley Britton whose visits she loved and cherished. She also leaves behind 7 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, some of whom also affectionately called her Nana.

As we extend our welcoming, Friends of the Weems Family may call Burton Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 602 West 10th Street, Erie PA, 16502 on Monday, March 10th from 10am until the time of service at 12 with Rev. Anthony G. Harris officiating. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family c/o Burton Funeral Home.
